Kerala registers 5,218 fresh cases, highest in Kottayam

Covid-19 was reported among 5,218 more people in the state on Tuesday. The total number of cases reported till date has risen to 6,77,255 and the recovered cases stand at 6,16,666. The number of active cases in the state is 57,757.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Covid-19 was reported among 5,218 more people in the state on Tuesday. The total number of cases reported till date has risen to 6,77,255 and the recovered cases stand at 6,16,666. The number of active cases in the state is 57,757.
Among the new cases reported, 5,146 cases were infected through local transmission. Of this the source of infection was unknown for 622.
There are 46 medical personnel among those infected while 72 arrived from outside the state have also tested positive.
At the same time, 5,066 patients have recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 33 deaths occurred in the last few days were confirmed as due to Covid-19 and the related death toll in the state is now 2,681. As many as 56,453 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.24%. A total of 70,56,318 samples have been sent for testing till now.
Kottayam reported the highest number of cases in the day with 758 cases, followed by Thrissur (712), Ernakulam (617), Thiruvananthapuram (430), Kollam (419), Pathanamthitta (404), Malappuram (377), Palakkad (349), Alappuzha (322), Wayanad (281), Kozhikode (276), Kannur (149), Idukki (104) and Kasaragod (20).
Those infected through contact are Kottayam - 733, Thrissur - 689, Ernakulam - 442, Thiruvananthapuram - 306, Kollam - 413, Pathanamthitta - 304, Malappuram - 355, Palakkad - 162, Alappuzha - 310, Wayanad - 273, Kozhikode - 257, Kannur - 114, Idukki - 100 and Kasaragod - 20.
Nine healthcare workers each were infected in Ernakulam and Thrissur, followed by Kannur (7), Palakkad
(6), Pathanamthitta (5), Thiruvananthapuram (3), Malappuram and Wayanad (2 each), and Kollam, Idukki and Kozhikode (1 each.) As many as 290 patients were tested in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by Kollam (863), Pathanamthitta

(188), Alappuzha (233), Kottayam (440), Idukki (72), Ernakulam (416), Thrissur (706), Palakkad (338), Malappuram (714), Kozhikode (487), Wayanad (162), Kannur (115) and Kasaragod (42).
There are a total of 3,04,165 people under isolation across the state, of which 2,90,987 are under home or institutional quarantine and 13,178 are admitted to various hospitals with suspected symptoms. As many as 1,357 people were admitted to the hospitals on Tuesday.
Twelve more places have been demarcated as hotspots while three areas were excluded. At present there are 442 hotspots in the state.
