BHUBANESWAR: BJP workers led by their leaders launched a 5-day 'padyatra' from Lingaraj temple here on Sunday demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the alleged murder of Nayagarh minor girl and CBI probe into the matter. They also demanded ouster of minister Arun Sahoo for his alleged involvement in shielding the main accused of the case. The padyatra will be culminated at Jadupur, village of the deceased girl on December 24.
BJP state president Samir Mohanty, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, BJP's women wing national president Vanathi Srinivasan and other state leaders participated in the padyatra.
On the first day, the padyatra was started from Bhubaneswar's Lingaraj temple to Janla in Khurda district. It will be ended at Jadupur in Nayagarh district with a public meeting on December 24 after passing Sarua, Pichukuli and Itamati.
Mohanty said more than 5000 children in Odisha were missing till 2019 and the government has not taken any steps to help the parents of the missing kids like Nayagarh minor girl murder case. "We had raised the issue in the state assembly, but the state government did not give chance to hold discussion on the issue in detail. Surprisingly, the assembly was adjourned sine die about a month ahead of the schedule. When the government did not pay heed to our concern, we started this padyatra demanding justice for the deceased girl," he added.
The BJP leader said CBI probe is necessary to crack the sensitive case. "As the minister is protecting the accused, we want his dismissal from the government," he added. Patra also raised the same demand on the issue.
BJP Mahila Morcha president Srinivasan said they have only two demands- CBI inquiry into the case and ouster of agriculture minister Arun Sahoo from the government. "We will continue the movement till our demands are not fulfilled," she added.
BJD leader and Puri MP Pinaki Mishra said Nayagarh minor girl death case is an unfortunate incident but the issue should not be politicized ruthlessly. "BJP should introspect that how their government in Uttar Pradesh handled the Hathras incident. BJP should stop politicising this issue, else it may boomerang on them," he added.
