Joe Rodon has had a brilliant start to his Tottenham career.

He has impressed his manager, team-mates and fans at the north London club since his switch to the English capital on the last day of the transfer window.

He made his first Premier League start for Spurs at Stamford Bridge, helping them to a gritty 0-0 draw and putting in a largely impressive display.

Barring two errors, Rodon didn't look out of place at all but the centre-back has had to bide his time under Jose Mourinho, who has more established defenders at his disposal.

After a flying start to the campaign, Spurs have come unstuck in the last week, with defeat by Liverpool, a frustrating draw against Crystal Palace and a disappointing 2-0 home reverse to Leicester City taking the shine off things.

Supporters have called for change at the back and for Rodon to be given more game-time, starting against Stoke City in the EFL Cup quarter-final on Wednesday.

But Rodon won't be available for selection for Mourinho - because he is cup tied.

The Wales centre-back featured for former club Swansea City in the opening round of the competition against Newport County, a game in which the Swans lost 2-0. His inclusion means he cannot feature for Spurs at all in the tournament.

There is better news for supporters, though, regarding Rodon. The 23-year-old was ineligible for the Europa League group stage after he was left out of the 25-man squad for the competition.

But he has now been included following the wrap up of the groups, meaning he is free to face Spurs' opponents Wolfsberger AC in the last 32 of the tournament.
