Gandhinagar: Two houses collapse after explosion in gas pipeline; one dead, two critical

AHMEDABAD: One person died while two others sustained critical injuries after two houses collapsed following a gas pipeline explosion at Panchvati society in Kalol on Tuesday morning.
“Two gas pipelines pass through the area, but it is not yet clear what caused the blast," said Gandhinagar SP Mayur Chavda as pipelines of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and the Gujarat Gas are present in the area."However, an investigation is under way to determine what exactly caused the blast," Chavda said.

Chavda said that a team of forensic experts was called to ascertain the cause of blast and from which pipeline it occurred.
The blast has caused damage to some adjoining houses and vehicles also. Glass windows of many houses were shattered, said a local. He added that one of the houses which collapsed was locked from a long time, while some people were staying in the other one.
A police officer said that fire brigade personnel were called to clear debris of the collapsed houses.
