VARANASI: A man undergoing treatment for mental illness went on a stabbing spree at his home early on Tuesday, killing his daughter and a milkwoman, while injuring his mother, wife, son and another family member in Jaunpur.
Jaunpur SP Rajkaran Nayyar said the accused Mumtaz alias Sonu of Bhadi Khas village under Shahganj police station in Jaunpur was arrested and sent to jail and all the injured were admitted to the district hospital, where their condition is stable.

Police officials said Mumtaz alias Sonu was undergoing treatment at a mental hospital in Varanasi for the past seven years.
He was being taken to Varanasi for consulting doctors on Monday, but he jumped from the vehicle and fled. He reached home later in the evening.
On Tuesday early morning, Mumtaj got angry when he went to the kitchen but did not find anything to eat. He picked up the knife and came out in rage and stabbed his daughter Hamaira (7) on spotting her. Mumtaz’s mother Chanda Begum tried to rescue Hamaira but she was also attacked by him. Hamaira died on the spot.
On hearing cries, Mumtaz’s wife Firdaus and son Mohammad (3) rushed out of their room but both were stabbed by him.

Mumtaz started going out of the home and attacked another family member who tried to stop him.
On coming out of home, he encountered Sulema Devi, who had come to deliver milk, and stabbed her also.
Neighbours and other villagers somehow pinned Mumtaz down and informed police.
A police team reached the spot and all the injured persons were rushed to district hospital where Sulema Devi was also declared dead by doctors.
