Karnataka: NABARD pegs Udupi’s potential credit for FY 2021-22 at Rs 8,867 crore

UDUPI: The potential linked credit plan (PLP) prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for Udupi district for the financial year 2021-22 envisages exploitable credit potential of Rs 8867.28 crore. This is 6.18% higher than the projection for the financial year 2020-21. Special emphasis has been laid on crop loans, Kisan credit cards for animal husbandry and fisheries activities, education loans.
Briefing about the salient points of the PLP that Dr Naveen Bhat Y, chief executive officer, Udupi Zilla Panchayat launched here on Thursday, Sangeetha S Kartha, assistant general manager, NABARD said out of the total credit potential, share of agriculture has been estimated at Rs 4776.83 crore including Rs 2139.87 crore as farm credit, Rs 286.27 crore for agriculture infrastructure and Rs 2350.68 crore for ancillary activities.

Micro, small and medium enterprises share under priority sector is Rs 2643.36 crore, export credit Rs 255 crore, education Rs 162 crore, housing Rs 930 crore, renewable energy Rs 400 crore and social infrastructure involving bank credit Rs 600 crore. NABARD prepares PLP for the district with the basic objective of mapping the existing potential for development through bank credit and takes into account long term potential, she said.
PLP also accounts for availability of infrastructure support, marketing facilities, policies and programmes of central, state governments, she said. The PLP aims to provide meaningful direction to the credit flow and acts as a resource document for bankers in preparation of annual credit plan. NABARD provides liquidity by way of refinance to banks for various activities and state government under rural infrastructure development fund, she said.
