Two children aged 12 were killed and three others were injured after a speeding truck ran over them on Jhansi-Mirzapur highway in UP's Mahoba district on Thursday morning.

LUCKNOW: Two children aged 12 were killed and three others were injured after a speeding truck ran over them on Jhansi-Mirzapur highway in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred when students were going to a coaching centre on their bicycles.

The incident took place in Sugira village under the limits of Kulpahad police station.

"The deceased were identified as Kapil and Dharmendra Sahu. The injured were identified as Devendra, Jitendra Gupta, and Sachin," said police.
Soon after the incident, angry villagers blocked the highway demanding arrest of the truck driver. Later, intervention of senior officials and assurance pacified the protesters.
According to the police, three students suffered serious injuries and are recuperating at the local hospital.

"Around 6.45am, five students were peddling to their coaching institute in the morning when an unidentified speeding truck crushed them. The driver managed to flee from the incident site," said Mahoba additional superintendent of police RK Gautam.
He also said that a case was being registered against the errant truck driver.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has offered condolences and directed officials to look into the matter and take action.
