BHUBANESWAR/ANGUL: Angul was the coldest place in the state at 6°C on Thursday. The minimum temperature in this industrial town has seen a sharp 7 to 8 degrees drop from normal and has baffled weathermen.
The IMD criteria says a drop sharper than 6.4 degrees from normal qualified as a ‘severe cold wave’. A senior officer in the IMD, seeking anonymity, confirmed that the Met department was rechecking the temperature reading of the observatory in Angul.
The IMD forecast on Thursday said there would be a slight rise in the minimum temperature over the next three-four days.
Umashankar Das of the regional IMD centre here said the minimum temperature would hover three to four degrees below normal in most places in the interior pockets. In the coastal areas, it would be two to three degrees lower than normal.
