Odisha's Gajapati collector contracts Covid-19

BHUBANESWAR: Gajapati collector Anupam Saha was among the 325 persons, who tested positive for Covid-19, in the state on Friday. So far, the state has reported 3,27, 867 cases. Three Covid-19 infected persons died in the last 24 hours in Balasore, Bhubaneswar and Dhenkanal on Friday.
Padma Shri awardee social worker and tea seller D Prakash Rao from Cuttack was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital after he tested positive.
His condition is stable. Rao helps slum children from his locality get education and free meals.
Of the fresh cases 187 were from quarantine and 138 were local contacts. Among the freshly reported Covid-19 cases, Khurda registered the highest number of cases of 36 followed by 33 from Sundargarh, 32 from Angul, 28 from Balasore, 21 from Sambalpur and nine from rest of the state. At present, the state has 2,989 active cases while 324 Covid patients recovered in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 3, 22,972 so far.
However, continuing its downward trend in the capital city, 31 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported in the last 24 hours.
Among the fresh cases, 25 were local contacts while six were in quarantine, sources in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. With this total Covid-19 tally in the city touched 31,519 while 236 persons have died. Currently, there are 351 active Covid-19 cases.
The state government has intensified the testing of UK returnees and contact tracing of positive cases, who returned from the UK.
The testing is being done to know whether the virulent mutated strain of SARS-CoV-2 is present in the samples or not.
