MYSURU: After a hiatus of nine months,
schools in
Mysuru district are gearing up to welcome
students back to the campus. Government and
private schools are
sanitising and sprucing up
classrooms for safe in-person learning.
Earlier this month, the state government announced that on-campus classes for class 10 and 12 students and
Vidyagama session for some other grades would be restarted on January 1. After a new strain of
coronavirus sparked global concerns recently, the government said that it would review the decision on December 28 or 29.
Schools, in the meantime, are making arrangements as per the original schedule. According to officials of the department of public instruction (DPI), school development and monitoring committees are giving a fresh look to campus facilities. “The committees are free to take up any work using available funds,” said deputy director of public instruction Panduranga.
In Mysuru district, committees have ordered painting and minor repair works. In Saraswatipuram, a group of volunteers, including newly recruited candidates for the posts of assistant commissioner and tahsildar, painted designs on the walls of a local school under the guidance of noted artist Badal Nanjundaswamy.
In Chamarajanagar district, officials are gearing up to welcome SSLC and II PU students. An official said that the district administration had decided to conduct sessions in students’ respective classrooms with strict social distancing.
Chamarajanagar deputy director of public instruction ST Javaregowda said that students with fever and other symptoms associated with Covid-19 won’t be allowed to attend Vidyagama or SSLC classes. They can attend the sessions after making full recovery and submitting a Covid-19 negative report. All students must bring refreshments from their home. RT-PCR tests are compulsory for candidates staying in hostels.
