5 killed, 17 injured in road mishap in Karnataka's Chitradurga district

At least five persons were killed on the spot after a speeding KSRTC bus collided with a Cruzer vehicle on NH 150 A, near Hosakere bridge under Molakalmuru taluk police limits of Karnataka's Chitradurga. The accident occured on wee hours of Sunday, leaving 17 others injured.

CHITRADURGA: At least five persons were killed on the spot after a speeding KSRTC bus collided with a cruzer vehicle on NH 150 A, near Hosakere bridge under Molakalmuru taluk police limits of Karnataka's Chitradurga. The accident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday, leaving 17 others injured.
The KSRTC bus was coming from Bengaluru to Lingasuguru and the cruzer vehicle was going from Raichur to Bengaluru.
The ill-fated cruzer was carrying 22 persons who were going for some labour works at Bengaluru. Due to the impact, the rooftop of the cruzer was blown off and heavily mangled.

The deceased were identified as Thimmanna, 40 and his wife Ratnamma, 38; cruzer driver Mahesh, 19 and Durugappa, 16 and Amaresha, 50. Their bodies were shifted to Molakalmuru government hospital’s mortuary. All the 17 injured have been shifted to Challakere taluk government hospital and three of them are said to be very critical.
Chitradurga SP G Radhika along with senior police officers rushed to the spot and lifted away the mangled cruzer from the highway and shifted all the injured to the hospital.
The bus driver Virupakshappa, 33, resident of Lingasuguru has been taken into custody after detainment of the bus.
Later, the bus passengers were sent to another bus, police said.
Molakalmuru police booked the case and further investigation is on, SP G. Radhika said.
