PRAYAGRAJ: The authorities of Kaushambi district jail have expressed their happiness after the efforts of inmates lodged at Kaushambi district jail for stitching covers for cows for winter season using old and torn blankets was praised by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme on Sunday.
The PM said, "In UP's Kaushambi jail, the inmates are stitching covers for cows from old and torn blankets.
These old and torn blankets are being collected from Kaushambi and other jails of the state to make covers for cows. Once the covers are prepared, they are being sent to gaushalas across the state."
He further said that the inmates were stitching many covers for cows every week and everyone should encourage and promote such efforts for helping others.
After finding PM's mention about inmates' efforts for stitching covers for cows from old and torn blankets, jail superintendent of Kaushambi district jail, BS Mukund said, "We have got a new energy after Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of inmates for stitching covers for cows in his 'Maan Ki Baat' programme."
Inmates of Kaushambi district jail are currently stitching 50 covers for cows in a week for the winter seasons using old and torn blankets. The woollen covers will be supplied to gaushalas across the state.
These covers are being made from worn out blankets collected from Kaushambi and other district jails of the state. A blanket allotted to an inmate during winter usually lasts around three years.
Mukund, meanwhile, said, “A team of 10 inmates are stitching the covers for the cattle. A pack of 100 woollen covers is being supplied to a gaushala in Manjhanpur. We have collected old and torn blankets from many jails and are using those to make the cover for cattle by stitching them with a thick sheet of cloth polythene.”
Mukund also claimed that this is the first time when the inmates have taken such an initiative.
“We aim to prepare around 1,000 covers for the cattle in a month and are trying to make at least 400 covers this month. Once the woollen cover is made, we put a logo on it and dispatch it to gaushalas,” he added.
