PM Modi to inaugurate 'New Bhaupur-New Khurja' section of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the New Khurja-New Bhaupur Section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor on Tuesday.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India is building the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight corridors (DFCs), which are expected to significantly improve efficiency in freight moved by the National transporter, thereby improving its modal freight share.

The PM will also inaugurate the EDFC’s operation control centre in Prayagraj, with Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in attendance.

The section to be inaugurated on Tuesday is a 351-km long stretch, built at a cost of Rs 5,750 crore. Stations on the section include Kanchausi, Achalda, Bhadan, Makhanpur, Tundla, Hathras, Daudkan, among others.

While Tata-Aldesa joint venture was responsible for the civil work on the section, French major Alstom undertook the signalling and electrical works.

The DFC is one of the key infrastructure projects under implementation in India at present. The 1,504 km-long western dedicated freight corridor runs from J N Port in Mumbai to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and 1,856 km-long Eastern DFC is from Sahnewal near Ludhiana, Punjab to Dankuni, West Bengal.
