Mukhiya beats villager to death in Bihar's Khagaria district

A villager was beaten to death for protesting suspicious activities of his Mukhiya’s (panchayat head) grandson near his cousin’s house and getting his bike seized by daring to call police at village Deotha under Pasraha police station area of Khagaria district on Friday night.

PATNA: A villager was beaten to death for protesting suspicious activities of his Mukhiya’s (panchayat head) grandson near his cousin’s house and getting his bike seized by daring to call police at village Deotha under Pasraha police station area of Khagaria district on Friday night.
The slain person was identified as Gado Baitha, aged around 50 years. The incident took place between 10pm to 11pm.
Police said Deotha panchayat mukhiya Chattri Sharma and his seven other associates had been made named accused in FIR lodged by Gado’s wife after which all of them are on run.

Sources from the village said that mukhiya’s grandson with another person had reached near Gado’s cousin Kare Baitha’s residence at around after midnight on Thursday.
“Kare, after hearing some noise, had come out and spotted mukhiya’s bike parked just near his house. The mukhiya’s grandson with another person fled from spot after coming out from dark all of a sudden when Kare tried to stop him,” a villager said.
He said Kare called chowkidar and got the bike belonging to mukhiya seized and taken to police station.
He said the mukhiya is presently associate with JDU but earlier was with RJD. Sources said that the mukhiya’s grandson was in close term with one a female members of Kare’s family due to which he had reached there.

When contacted, Gado’s elder brother Lakhu Baitha told TOI over phone that the mukhiya along with 50 other supporters reached at Kare’s residence on Friday night and started thrashing him for daring to get his bike seized by approaching police and protesting against his grandson.
“Gado also reached there but he was also thrashed which resulted his death at spot. All fled afterwards easily,” he said.
Meanwhile Pasraha police station Amlesh Kumar said raids were going on to nab the mukhiya and seven others who are accused of thrashing Gado to death.
“Gado’s wife has not mentioned any reason for his killing in the FIR against mukhiya and his associates,” he said.
Kumar said body was handed over to family members for last rites after post-mortem on Saturday.
