8,272 patients fighting Covid in Tamil Nadu

The state discharged 1,007 patients from the Covid-19 registry, and added 910 fresh cases on Saturday, which pushed the cumulative case tally to 8,19,845. The active case count dropped to 8,272 from 8,380 on Friday.

CHENNAI: The state discharged 1,007 patients from the Covid-19 registry, and added 910 fresh cases on Saturday, which pushed the cumulative case tally to 8,19,845. The active case count dropped to 8,272 from 8,380 on Friday.
The state reported 11 deaths due to the viral infection until Saturday noon, which took the Covid-19 death toll to 12,146. The case fatality rate stood at 1.48%.
Public health experts said most deaths in TN were among patients with comorbidities.
Three districts – Ariyalur, Perambalur and Kallakurichi — reported zero cases on Saturday, while 32 districts reported zero deaths. Hotspot Chennai reported four deaths, followed by three in Nagapattinam, two in Tirupur and one each in Salem and Ramanathapuram. While Chennai topped the case table with 246 new cases, Coimbatore followed with 78 new cases and Chengalpet reported 64 new cases. All other districts reported cases below 50 cases and 11 districts reported a single digit increase — Villupuram (9), Tiruvannamalai (8), Pudukottai (7), Ranipet (7), Tiruvarur
(7), Tuticorin (7) and Tenkasi
(7), Virudhunagar (6) and Krishnagiri (5). With four cases each Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram had the lowest number of fresh cases in the state.
The eleven districts in the north reported 459 fresh cases and four deaths. All deaths were in the Chennai region – Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet and Tiruvallur. After the northern districts, the eight districts in the west together reported 238 fresh cases and three deaths. The central districts reported 97 cases and three deaths, the 10 southern districts reported 116 cases and one death.
Active cases were highest in the northern districts 4,290, including 3,661 in the Chennai region. There were 2,179 active cases in the west, 820 in the centre and 976 in the South.
