THANE: A 27-year-old man, Deepak Mahankal was arrested by the Kalwa police for killing a 45-year-old. The accused boasted about the murder to his neighbours, which led to his arrest.
Mahankal had bashed Mangesh Kedar to death to take revenge, said VG Darekar, senior inspector of Kalwa police station.
“It was on December 31, Kedar told his family that he was going to sleep in his other house.
As the deceased did not return, the family members went to check on him, only to find that he was stoned to death,” Darekar added.
A few neighbours had seen Mahankal bragging about killing the victim. When cops asked the neighbours, they told them about Mahankal.
Accordingly, the cops started to trace the accused who was about to flee away whereas the sleuths gathered the clues and caught him as he was about to flee the town and was found near the railway station.
During the interrogation, he confessed to the murder and told the police that the deceased had an affair with the accused’s sister a couple of years back and he used to harrass his sister as well as his mother and hence he had decided to eliminate him. Accordingly, he kept a watch on him and after finding him all alone he smashed him with a blunt stone object inflicting multiple injuries, Darekar further added.
A case was registered at Kalwa police station under IPC section 302 (murder).
