MADURAI: Students of government Elite School in Ramanathapuram received their NEET and JEE entrance exam preparatory books and study material free of cost to help them prepare better.
The books were donated by a NGO involved in helping government school students, who could not afford the books.
“Some of the books and study material for preparation for these competitive exams are often expensive and unaffordable for government school students so we wanted to take up this initiative to provide quality study material free of cost,” said T Jeyarajasekar, chairman, ANT Educational Medical and Social Welfare Development Trust.

The programme -- I to the Medical College -- was organised on Monday at the Government Elite School in Ramanathapuram.
The books and study material worth Rs 1 lakh will cover all subjects like Physics, Maths, Chemistry, etc.
“Though we could not get sets of books for each and every student, students would be sharing the books among themselves. For JEE, we distributed preparatory books while for NEET, we distributed question banks, which contain question papers from previous exams and model questions,” said Jeyarajasekar.
He also addressed the students on educational opportunities in health care and encouraged them to take up medical professions.

More than 100 students benefitted from the programme.
The NGO had previously distributed books and study material for those preparing for NEET exam in 2019 and three students from the school had got admissions in medical colleges. Hence, this year, materials for those preparing for JEE was included as well.
“We have received requests from other government schools as well to provide quality study material for competitive exams. We are hoping to do the same for a school in Erode next,” added Jeyarajasekar.
