ROURKELA/ANGUL: Pakistan jail returnee Birju Kullu, who went missing from his house at Jangatoli village in Kutra block a couple of days back, was traced by police in Angul district on Tuesday morning.
Locals spotted Birju wandering at Talcher bus stand on Monday evening and took him to a municipality shelter home after coming to know that he was missing from Sundargarh district. Subsequently, police were informed.

Talcher IIC Satyabrata Rout said, a police team reached the guest house and confirmed the man to be Birju. He is in good health. Sundargarh police was subsequently intimated.Sundargarh SP Sagarika Nath said, the 50-year-old Birju was being brought to Sundargarh from Angul. The reason behind Birju leaving his home without knowledge of his family members would be known after his arrival.

On January 2, a complaint was lodged in Kutra police station over Birju missing from home once again under mysterious circumstances. In her complaint, his sister Bernadetta said Birju was last seen sleeping in his room on January 1 night but the next day, he was gone. Basing on the complaint, Sundargarh police had intensified efforts to trace him.

Suffering from a mental disorder since childhood, Birju had left home some 23 years back. He was presumed dead by his family members and relatives till his repatriation to India by the Ministry of External Affairs on October 26 last year. Birju had to spend around 20 years in Central Jail of Lahore in Pakistan after trespassing, unwittingly, into the neighbouring country’s territory. The Sundargarh district administration had reunited him with his family on November 13 last year.
