PRAYAGRAJ: At a time when the premises of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Degree College, a constituent college of Allahabad University, is slowly opening up for its students in post-lockdown period, a huge python was caught from the college campus on Tuesday.
Over eight-feet-long python, which had sneaked behind the almirah of the common room of female students, was eventually caught by Prof NB Singh of the department of Botany of AU.
Prof Singh has caught over a dozen dangerous reptiles from different places including different departments of AU’s main campus, Teacher's Colony at MNNIT and Chaitam Lines, Allahabad Degree College etc.
“I was on the main campus when one of the faculty members of the college, who was one of my students at AU, called me and informed me that the girls had spotted a snake in the common room. Leaving behind all the work, I rushed to the college and removed the almirah and caught hold of the huge reptile, which was a python measuring at least Eight feet or so”, said Prof Singh, who is also the garden incharge of AU’s main campus.
Before getting caught and also after seeing it in the bare hands of the faculty member of AU, the massive reptile created quite a panic on the college campus. The entire exercise of capturing the snake was recorded in a video which has gone viral. The video shows the Botany Professor tackling the snake with dexterity.
“As this is their time of hibernation, this python too had lost his way for search of food which he would have hunted and gone for hibernation but unfortunately, it landed in the common hall”, explained Prof Singh.
He also informed that he would be leaving this reptile in the jungles of Shankargrah which has the natural habitat for these creatures and he would be safe there.
