J&K: Tourists stuck in heavy snowfall in Srinagar get free accommodation

Government provided free accommodation to the stranded tourists due to heavy snowfall in Srinagar. Tourists got respite after cancellation of their flights. Valley received heavy snowfall and landslides this season resulting in closure of highways. Due to bad weather conditions, several flights remain cancelled Srinagar airport. Department of Tourism came forward to help all the stranded tourists. Tourists are getting free stay in different hotels and guest houses. Speaking to ANI, a stranded tourist, Meenakshi said, “From the side of J&K Tourism Department we are getting good facilities. Our flight got cancelled so they have provided us rooms and various facilities.” “We came to Srinagar on December 31 and are here from last 5-6 days and have also enjoyed a lot. Today was our returning flight which got cancelled and now we are here as the government has provided us rooms to stay,” she added. Talking to ANI, Tourist officer of J&K Tourism Dept, Mudassir Mushtaq said, “In last few days you must have seen that there was heavy snowfall in Srinagar. Due to which our air traffic and highways got disconnected. In this regard, J&K Tourism Department provided accommodation to stranded tourists as an initiative on humanitarian grounds.” “We have provided free accommodation and food at nominal prices to the helpless tourists. We will continue our services till the time air and road traffic will be cleared,” he added.
