No patients in ICU in six districts in Karnataka

HAVERI: While Covid-19 infections have been falling for the past month now, severity of infections also appears to be dropping, going by the number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) in government and private hospitals.
In all, six districts including Haveri have no Covid-19 patients in ICU. The other districts are Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Raichur, Ramanagar, and Yadgir.
Data released by the health and family welfare department on Wednesday showed a total of 210 patients in ICU.As on Wednesday, only four districts had more than 10, while Bangaluru Urban had the highest — 89 cases.
Tumakuru, Hassan, and Kalaburagi districts together accounted for 39 patients in ICU, while another 20 districts had nine or less patients in need of ventilator support.
Officials say the highest number of patients in ICU on a single day was 956 on October
31. Most ventilator beds in hospitals in the state were filled and demand too was high in October, when cases were peaking. Now though, the demand has fallen.
Dr Rajendra Doddamani, Haveri district health officer, said the last patient discharged from ICU was on December 31. “There have been no Covid-19 patients in ICU after that in the Haveri district,” Dr Doddamani said. “Moreover, as of now, we have only 20 active cases and only one in hospital. “It’s the same scenario in the other five districts which have no patients in ICU.”
Dr PR Havanur, district surgeon, said, “The other 19 active cases in Haveri district are all asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and all are recovering in home isolation.”
