BENGALURU: The high court on Thursday directed the state government to submit a compliance report by February 15 with regard to the widening of Jayamahal Road (from Mehkri Circle to Cantonment Railway Station) and Ballari Road (from Mehkri Circle to BDA Junction), in terms of the orders passed by both the Supreme Court and the high court.
A division bench pointed out though the state government had granted administrative approval for acquiring about 16 acres of land, the direction issued by the Supreme Court on November 21, 2014 and the high court on September 7, 2016 have been ignored.

“Notwithstanding both the orders (SC and HC), the order of the state is silent about the grant of Transfer Development Rights (TDR) to the appellants before the apex court (members of the erstwhile Mysore royal family). On September 7, 2016, a direction was issued to the state government to grant necessary clearance to BBMP for issuing TDR certificates in terms of the existing TDR rules,” the bench noted.
Now, the government must place before the court details of the TDR grant.
In their PIL, Samarpana, a Bengaluru-based socio-cultural trust, claimed that despite clear directions from the Supreme Court and high court and also preparation of a plan by BBMP, showing requirement of 15 acres and 39 guntas of land abutting Palace Grounds, no further action has been initiated.
