MANGALURU: BJP in Karnataka is all set to hold ‘Jan Sevak’ conventions to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Pradhan Sevak’ vision popular in villages across the state, from Monday to Wednesday.
The party has already created five teams involving state and central leaders. Each team will participate in six conventions to cover 30 districts of the state. Chief minister B S Yediyurappa will inaugurate the convention in Mysuru, in the presence of BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel on Monday, said Ganesh Karnik, BJP state spokesperson.

Inaugural ceremonies will also be held on the same day at Madikeri, under the leadership of K S Eshwarappa, minister for rural development and panchayat raj. Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Govind Karjol will inaugurate a convention in Gadag, minister of large and medium scale industries Jagadish Shettar in Bidar and deputy chief minister C N Ashwath Narayan will launch a meet in Haveri, Karnik said, adding that each convention will witness the participation of 1,000 to 3,000 party workers.
“The conventions are aimed at forming teams of jan sevaks, who will be taking forward the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been serving as the pradhan sevak of the country. We also have an objective of making the party stronger before the upcoming zilla panchayat and taluk elections,” he said.
Candidates supported by the BJP have bagged a thumping victory in the recently held gram panchayat election, Karnik said, adding that candidates backed by the BJP have won in 45,246 (52.4%) out of 86,183 seats in 5,670 gram panchayats of the state. “BJP supporters have secured a majority in 3,142 (55.4%) out of 5,670 gram panchayats,” he added.
In Udupi on Tuesday
The district unit of the BJP will organise a ‘Jan Sevak Samavesh’ at Amrith Garden Hall in Ambagilu on NH-66 on Tuesday. Minister for rural development and panchayat raj, K S Eshwarappa, BJP national general secretary C T Ravi and others will attend this program. The newly elected gram panchayat members, backed by the party, will be felicitated on this occasion, said Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak, president of the district unit of the BJP.

Nayak told reporters on Saturday, that 1,495 BJP-backed candidates out of 2,351 candidates won in the recent gram panchayat election. This is a landmark victory, that will boost the BJP’s morale in the run up to the taluk and zilla panchayat elections that are round the corner, he said. The convention is also a thanksgiving to the voters who supported the party-backed candidates, and thereby reposed confidence in the party, he said.
The party will also organise various new programmes formulated by the state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel and his team, including pancharatna samiti, page pramukh, kutumba milana and gram swarajya conventions, in the days ahead. BJP in recognising the toil of its workers in the GP elections, will shift gears for the upcoming elections, he said. K Naveen Shetty, general secretary, Guruprasad Shetty Katapady, spokesperson, and others were present.
