MYSURU: Some nursery schools in Mysuru are looking for young teachers who may be more adept at conducting online classes, operating digital platforms and implementing changing SOPs than veterans.
Nurseries didn’t see any on-campus academic activity during the 2020-21 calendar year, and most believe that the online mode of teaching will continue for more months. Before the new academic session starts, a few managements are trying to rope in younger staff members.
The downside of this approach is that experienced teachers, who have served institutes for many years, may not be retained.
Girish Baga, founder of Athena Educational Services and director of Kiddiebears preschool, said that it was natural for institutes to look for tech-savvy talent. “Until vaccines are widely available for everyone, there is no possibility of restarting on-campus nursery classes. Naturally, schools will look for teachers who can integrate online and offline interventions. Schools prefer young faculty in place of seniors,” he explained.
D Shashikumar, the state general secretary of the Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools (KAMS), said that the preschool system had collapsed in Karnataka because of Covid-19. “Hardly 10 per cent of the old staff is now working at schools. So, we need to go for new teachers,” he said. Shashikumar added that classes for lower grades might not resume anytime soon. Sudhakar S Shetty, who heads the CBSE, ICSE and State Private Schools’ Management Association, said that 30 per cent of staff of preschools kept changing jobs.
