NEW DELHI: As many as 59 industrial units have been converted to Petroleum Natural Gas (PNG), a safer and nonpolluting fuel, in the past 40 days, according to Delhi
Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). With the conversion of these units, only 20 units are using non-cleaner fuels.
According to officials, the conversion to PNG is being done to curb
air pollution due to industrial emissions.
The industrial units, which recently switched to PNG, are mainly involved in furnace, boiler, food industry and paint booths. 20 industrial units that are using non-cleaner fuels are based in Jawahar Nagar and Karawal Nagar.
“Of 1,644 industrial units in Delhi, 1,624 units have been converted to a cleaner fuel so far. For the conversion of the remaining 20 units, we have set a deadline of January 31 to place PNG pipelines in the two industrial areas where these remaining units are based. We are also conducting a meeting with these units on Wednesday to check their preparedness for switching to cleaner fuels after PNG pipelines are placed,” said a senior DPCC official.
