Police arrested Santu Kumar (24), owner of a coaching institute, from a village under the Dhanarua police station area in eastern Patna on Saturday night on charges of raping one of his former students.

PATNA: Police arrested Santu Kumar (24), owner of a coaching institute, from a village under the Dhanarua police station area in eastern Patna on Saturday night on charges of raping one of his former students.
SHO of Dhanarua police station Raju Kumar said the 14-year-old rape survivor studies in Class VII. “The girl used to study at Santu’s coaching institute earlier,” he said, adding the girl’s father and other family members lodged an FIR against Santu on Saturday night.
The SHO said the incident occurred on December 5 but the girl’s family members came to know about it on December 8.
“Santu had called the girl on the pretext of meeting her. He later took the girl to a secluded place and raped her,” Kumar said.
“Santu has been forwarded to judicial custody. The girl’s medical examination has also been conducted. Her statement before judicial magistrate will be recorded on Monday,” he added.
