NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man, previously involved in at least half a dozen criminal cases, was hammered to death by another man in a public park in south Delhi’s Tigri on Sunday afternoon. The two men had a fight recently.
According to police, they received a call at 2.30pm that a man had been hit by a hammer in a park and was in serious condition. A police team that reached the spot, found that the man, Rahul, had been shifted to Batra Hospital.
When checked from the hospital, it was found that Rahul, a resident of JJ Camp in Tigri, had been declared brought dead.
“Initial probe revealed that Rahul was attacked by another resident of the area, Govind, 22, when he was sitting in the DDA park along with one Sanjay and his other friends. Witnesses and locals reported that around 2.15pm, Govind came to the park armed with a hammer and suddenly attacked Rahul. They said Govind hit the hammer repeatedly on Rahul’s head until he fell unconscious,” said a police officer.
Deputy commissioner of police (south) Atul Thakur said a murder case was registered and following a raid, Govind was arrested for the killing. “The accused was caught within minutes of the murder from another park at MB Road,” Thakur added.
