All eyes are on Mother Nature

An agronomist says they’re already fielding questions about field conditions ahead of the 2021 planting season.

Stephanie Porter is the soybean product manager with Golden Harvest.  “In the Midwest, there is great concern with the drought in the West and areas of Nebraska,” she says.  “I know that all eyes are on that and farmers are very concerned with dry conditions.”

She tells Brownfield farmers need to prepare for Mother Nature’s curveballs.  “We want to make sure that we have some genetics that can go through some tough environments,” she says.  “But also, keep an eye out for some diseases that we didn’t have or have in the past couple of years.  White mold was not much of an issue in some areas of the Midwest like it was before.”

Porter says they’re also working with growers to make sure they’re taking steps to mitigate the risks from issues like Sudden Death Syndrome and Soybean Cyst Nematode.
