BHUBANESWAR: The IMD on Thursday issued cold
wave warning for some places in Sundargarh and
Jharsuguda districts. The alert is valid for the next two days.
Also, dense fog is likely to prevail in seven districts on Friday. They are Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh and Kandhamal, the forecast said. The state government has issued an alert to the collectors in view of the fog and
cold wave warning.
The director of regional IMD centre, H R Biswas, said the minimum temperature would see a drop of three to four degrees from normal, at least for the next two-three days. This will be under the influence of north westerly winds, he said. Coastal pockets would see a drop of minimum temperatures by two to three degrees from normal during the period. Biswas said the influence of the north westerly winds was felt in parts of interior Odisha on Thursday. At 8.6°C, Jharsuguda’s night temperature saw a sharp four degree fall from normal. At 11 more places, the minimum temperatures were below 15°C.
On Thursday, dense fog prevailed at isolated places in Puri district. Shallow to moderate fog was seen in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul and Malkangiri.
