BHOPAL: A 35-year-old woman was abducted from a
park and raped barely 500 metre from the
police HQ in
Bhopal late Thursday night, sending shockwaves through the state capital.
The woman was ailing and had stopped to rest in the park while returning from
Hamidia Hospital. Police have arrested a suspect, 25-year-old Naresh Prajapati, who runs a garment shop near
Neelam Park. Police say he pounced on the woman on finding her alone.
The survivor, a daily wager, has told police that she felt unwell after work on Thursday and went to Hamidia Hospital for check-up, said police.
She got delayed at the hospital and it was late when she began walking home. She got to know that people were donating food and blankets near a religious place near Lal Parade Ground, so she decided to go there, the SHO said. But she again started feeling unwell and went to Neelam Park to rest for a while.
