Gujarat takes first shot at Covid today, 16,100 to get the jab

Gujarat will join the nationwide drive for Covid-19 vaccination from 161 centres on Saturday. Each centre will be vaccinating 100 healthcare workers, said Dr Nayan Jani, state immunization officer.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat will join the nationwide drive for Covid-19 vaccination from 161 centres on Saturday. Each centre will be vaccinating 100 healthcare workers, said Dr Nayan Jani, state immunization officer.
Accordingly, 16,100 persons will be vaccinated on the first day. Several prominent doctors of the city are likely to get vaccinated to create awareness, said sources.
Those who would get vaccinated on Saturday include Dr Ketan Desai, former president of World Medical Association; Dr H P Bhalodia, leading orthopedic surgeon; Dr J P Modi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital; Dr Vineet Mishra, director of IKDRC among others.
Senior health department officials said that several heads of departments at various medical colleges across the state would undergo vaccination on Saturday.
“Vaccines have reached primary storage depots in all 33 districts and eight municipal corporations of Gujarat. The state has carried out four dry runs, giving confidence to those involved that it will be a smooth operation,” he said.
Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani will be present at Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. The first batch of vaccine takers will be interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conference, said state health department officials.
Special arrangements for the same are made at civil hospitals in Ahmedabad and Rajkot.
