Wayne Rooney has been named the new manager of Derby County and his wife Coleen led the emotional tributes.

The former Everton forward and England captain has decided to retire from playing the game and instead fully concentrate on a new role as the permanent manger of Championship side Derby County.

Wayne has been acting as the Rams' caretaker boss since Phillip Cocu was sacked earlier this season.

Derby CEO Stephen Pearce said: "We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Wayne Rooney as our new manager.

"Our recent upturn in results under Wayne was married together with some positive performances, notably the 2-0 home win over Swansea City and the 4-0 victory at Birmingham City."

Tributes to his near 20 years in the pro game came flooding in – with doting wife Coleen sharing some very sweet words, the Mirror reported.
