  • Ivan Toney has scored 16 goals in the Championship this season for Brentford
  • The Bees want Toney to fire them to the Premier League and will not sell him
  • But Arsenal will continue to monitor his progress with a view on a future move
  • West Ham are also keeping an eye on the 24-year-old's situation at Brentford

Arsenal are reportedly keeping an eye on Brentford striker Ivan Toney with a view on making a move in the future.

Toney, who signed for the Bees from Peterborough for £10million last summer, is the Championship's joint top-scorer alongside Adam Armstrong with 16 goals.

The 24-year-old's excellent form has attracted suitors from the top-flight, including Arsenal and West Ham, but according to the Express the Gunners won't be making a move yet, with Mikel Arteta already working with limited funds.

The report details that the Arsenal scouting team will continue to monitor Toney's development at Brentford for the rest of the season.

The Bees are also not entertaining the prospect of selling Toney this month, as they look to him to fire them to the Premier League.

Brentford are currently fourth in the Championship, two points off the automatic promotion spots and Bees boss Thomas Frank insisted that Toney's desire is to help their promotion push, rather than look for a move away this month.

'I think Ivan has an inner drive and determination to reach the highest possible level,' the Dane said. 'There's always a situation in all of our careers that inspired us or is irritating us enough to make us work hard every day to try to prove some people wrong.

'I know that Ivan has big ambitions and of course he would like to prove that he could have played in the Premier League.'

West Ham, meanwhile, are looking for a permanent replacement for Sebastien Haller, after the striker was sold to Ajax last week.

Toney made just two appearances for Newcastle before he was sold in 2018 and he has also spent time out on loan at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Wigan in his career.

The striker came in as a replacement for Ollie Watkins, after he was sold for £28m to Aston Villa last summer.
