Oil and gas conservation campaign underway

A month-long oil and gas as well as environment conservation campaign commonly known as Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav (SAKSHAM 2021) got underway in Nagaland.

The month-long SAKSHAM 2021 for Nagaland state was launched by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas along with Oil PSUs through a Zoom meeting on January 16.

Ngahorning Kashung, Nagaland state level co-ordinator, Tinsukia divisional office, IOAOD, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., stated that SAKSHAM is a month-long awareness campaign for conservation ofoil and gas and environment protection. He added that the event is observed every year from January 16to February 15 throughout the country.

During the campaign, various activities such as LPG panchayat, group talks, debates, workshops etc. would be undertaken for spreading the message of awareness on the conservation of oil and Gas and environment protection, he added.

The inaugural address was delivered by Asangla Imti, director of Food and Civil Supply, government of Nagaland, and Kumrah Solei, OIC plant manager of Dimapur bottling plant.

Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, has also expressed happiness for the month-long awareness campaign on oil conservation and energy efficiency on the theme “Green and clean energy”.

“With the growth of Indian economy and development taking place in all sectors, fossil fuel consumption has been increasing every single day and dramatic improvements in the standard of living of the average person over the past few decades has also led to an increase in consumption of energy, especially fossil fuels,” Rio said. He has sought a collective effort from all sections of the society to achieve oil conservation and energy efficiency. He hoped that the month-long programme would be a channel for change. He further appealed to everyone to contribute and support the campaign.
