Gujarat: 3 dead as boat capsizes near Chikhli in Navsari; rescue operation underway

A boat with around 10 members of a family from Surat capsized in a lake at Eco-Point near Soldhara village of Navsari district around 71 km from Surat on Sunday late evening. Three dead bodies including that of a one-year-old child were fished out from the lake while few others rescued have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

SURAT: A boat with around 10 members of a family from Surat capsized in a lake at Eco-Point near Soldhara village of Navsari district around 71 km from Surat on Sunday late evening. Three dead bodies including that of a one-year-old child were fished out from the lake while few others rescued have been shifted to nearby hospitals.
"So far three dead bodies have been fished out and search for other people is continue.
The exact number of deaths will be confirmed after the rescue operation ends," said a police officer of Chikhli police station. Police are yet to confirm how many people were on the boat.

"Police are focusing on a rescue operation at present. Only after we complete the search of the lake water we can confirm how many people were there on the boat," said Rushikesh Upadhyay, superintendent of police, Navsari.
Cops are working to identify the victim family. Police are checking documents and mobile phones of the family to identify them. Due to dark, the rescue operation has become challenging. Rescue teams from Chikhli and Navsari were joined by locals to save victims.
The family had come from Surat and at around 7pm the boat capsized due to some reason that is yet to be investigated.
