Dimapur, Jan. 17 (EMN): As part of its 6th foundation anniversary, the Vivekananada Welfare Foundation (VWF) observed National Youth Day by organising a programme at Durga Mandir auditorium on January 17 on the theme “Channelising youth power for nation building.”
Speaking on the occasion as special guest, the state president of National People’s Party (NPP) Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, encouraged the youth to choose some great personalities and make them their mentors. He encouraged the youth not to feel inferior about their economic background but propagate their ideals for the uplift of the society.
While reminding that no political party or religion is bad, Sema urged upon the gathering to choose the right candidate to represent them in the assembly. While explaining the inalienable characteristics of politics and religion, he advised the gathering not to mix up the two. He was of the opinion that politics has become a platform for selfish gains instead of serving people.
Describing Vivekananda as the perfect example for the youth today, he lauded VWF for their invaluable service towards the society. Sema further lamented the lack of skills among the youth to engage themselves in gainful professions for self-sustenance.
On the occasion, guest of honour and director of Peace Channel, Dr. Fr. CP Anto delivered a short message on the life of Swami Vivekananda, which is aptly applicable in the modern society especially among the youth of the state.
Quoting a phrase from Eugene Bell Junior, “Aspire to inspire before you expire,” Anto added that Vivekananda is absolutely relevant not only to the youth but to the children as well.
According to Anto, Vivekananda was a great spiritual giant to inspire, to connect with the soul and mind of humanity and added that he has inspired many people across the globe even today. He added that Vivekananda has become an ideal for 65 percent of the Indian population under 35 years of age.
Anto encouraged the gatherings to embrace the teachings of Vivekananda and move forward in unity and be an inspiration to others. He added that Nagaland too could become a model state as the state has no religious conflict. He also encouraged the parents to understand and love their children unconditionally.
He further encouraged the gathering to propagate love, forgiveness and compassion in life.
Highlights of the programme included presentations of song and cultural dance. Besides, prizes were awarded to the winners of various competitions which were conducted online.
