77-year-old Covid-19 patient commits suicide in Hyderabad hospital

HYDERABAD: K Narayana, A 77-year-old Covid-19 patient committed suicide at private run KIMS hospital Kondapur on Sunday by jumping off the second floor of the building.
The patient, a trader hailing from Vemulavada lived in Kondapur along with his two sons. This is the third such suicide in the recent months while several other suicide attempts had been foiled by the state run Gandhi hospital where all Covid-19 positive patients were admitted during the initial months of the pandemic.
In the most recent case, on August 11th, a 60-year-old patient jumped off the building of yet another corporate hospital in the city.
"The patient was admitted to KIMS hospitals at Kondapur on Wednesday, January 13, after testing positive for Covid-19. On January 17, Sunday morning at 9.50am, while the nursing staff were preparing for his medication, Narayana jumped off the Covid-19 ward located on 2nd floor of the building. Hospital staff rushed him to the emergency ward to resurrect, but in vain. On receiving information, the victim's family reached the hospital and the body was handed over as per GHMC protocol for final rites,” read an official statement from the hospital.
