Counting of votes for gram panchayat polls was held in Maharashtra today. The elections to the 12,711 gram panchayats spread across 34 districts in the state was held on January 15. The BJP’s win in over 6,000 gram panchayats is a stamp of approval of the various welfare schemes implemented by the Central government. At the same it shows the people’s anger against the Maha Vikas Aghadi government that did not offer a single penny worth of aid to farmers and farm labourers, said state unit president Chandrakant Patil.

MUMBAI: Although the gram panchayat results are yet to be announced officially, the trend shows that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the alliance of Shiv Sena, congress and NCP, is leading in the state. Congress state president Balasaheb Throat claimed that MVA will win 80% gram panchayats elections of which Congress will get at least 4,000-4,500 gram panchayats.

Nagpur: District BJP president Arvind Gajbhiye has claimed that BJP has won in 65 out of 129 gram panchayats in the district while it's supported candidates have won in 8 panchayats taking the total to 73. This is being denied by Congress and NCP leaders.

According to the Shiv Sena leaders, the party has got more seats – trouncing one of its ally, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which had a very strong presence in the rural areas of Nashik. "In most of the GP elections, Shiv Sena contested alone. In some we had the joint participation,” said Vijay Karanjkar, of Shiv Sena. Similarly in the neighbouring Ahmednagar district panel backed by BJP heavy weights former minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil and former minister Ram Shinde have been defeated by the MVA in Loni Khurd and Chondhi, villages respectively. In Kothai GP in Muktai Nagar in Jalgaon, the panel backed by the former minister Eknath Khadse has got the majority.

According to the trends of the gram panchayat, the panels backed by Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are leading in more than 80 GPs whose counting is over even as the results are yet to be announced officially, while the BJP is left with a very few Gram Panchyats.
