West Brom take their show on the road again this Tuesday at West Ham, having seen off rivals Wolves on Saturday.

Ah, Tuesday.

Midweek matches aren’t as frequent in the Premier League as they are in the Championship, naturally because of the length of the season, but still the odd fixture pops up here and there in the schedule.

In the last 19 years, Albion have spent 13 of them in the top flight. They’ve taken part in 29 matches specifically on a Tuesday.

It’s rather maddening, but various Albion teams under various managers across that extensive period of time have not posted a single Tuesday win between them. Sam Allardyce and this Albion group, therefore, would break new ground by securing another welcome three points at the London Stadium this time around.

Via OPTA, in those 29 games they’ve collected 13 draws and been on the losing end in the remaining 16 matches. It’s pretty bonkers, when you consider that somewhere along the lines the Baggies surely would’ve nicked a win.

It hasn’t happened, though. Not for Gary Megson, or Bryan Robson, or Tony Mowbray, or Di Matteo, Hodgson, Clarke, Pulis, Bilic...

According to OPTA, and in fairness who are we to question the statistical whizzes, it’s the single longest run of matches played by a team on the same day without a win in the competition’s history. Makes sense; you’d have go some to beat it. Albion, though, will want to ensure they don’t extend it, either this Tuesday or next, when Manchester City visit The Hawthorns.

Amid a relegation scrap where Albion have finally seen a little light at the end of the tunnel, there’s added motivation to banish the Tuesday demon.
