LUCKNOW: Civil aviation sector in Uttar Pradesh is set to get wings as the state government is making efforts to provide best facilities to civil enclaves proposed to be constructed at Chakeri airport in Kanpur and Sarsawan air base in Saharanpur under the Centre’s flagship Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).
According to the proposal moved by the civil aviation department, the civil enclave at Chakeri airport is proposed to get 800 KVA power connection to cater to high electricity demand.

Four high-tension lines adjacent to the aircraft taxi route at the airport are proposed to be put underground. In case of Sarsawan airbase, the department has made an allocation of over Rs 62.4 lakh for 0.4338 hectares of land acquired for the construction of the civil enclave.
The development comes months after the Centre identified three air routes from Chakeri airport – Kanpur-Moradabad, Kanpur-Aligarh and Kanpur-Chitrakoot – under the RCS scheme.
The scheme was launched in 2016 to stimulate regional air connectivity and make air travel affordable to the masses.
Similarly, the Sarsawan airport in Saharanpur was included in the fourth phase of Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) Scheme in December 2019.
According to an order issued by the civil aviation department, Chakeri airport will get Rs 8.5 crore to carry out the development of civil enclave. The department has asked director (civil aviation) Surendra Singh, who has been entrusted the task of the development of civil enclaves, to withdraw the allocated sum as per immediate need.

The allocated sum will not be kept in a bank and will be used only for the purpose it is withdrawn from the state exchequer. The directorate has also been asked to ensure that the proposed works are not included in any other scheme nor the sum is allocated from any other source.
Officials said there should be no cost or time overrun and the rules laid down in the budget manual are strictly adhered to. The civil aviation director has also been asked to ensure quality in construction and regular monitoring.
