    Assam government will regulate use of pesticide and fertilizers: Agriculture minister, Atul Bora

    Bora, while talking to media said, “during my visit to Mangaldoi people have complained about the use of pesticides in agriculture produce, to control that same agriculture officers are making on field visits.”

    GUWAHATI: Assam agriculture minister, Atul Bora said that the state government will regulate the use of pesticide and fertilisers in agriculture produce.
    Bora, while talking to media said, “during my visit to Mangaldoi people have complained about the use of pesticides in agriculture produce, to control that same agriculture officers are making on field visits.”

    “We will take more measures to deal with this. Registration and licenses are reviewed from time to time,” e added.

    Assam health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma in past had stated in past

    in Central and Lower Assam centres like Kharupathia, Nagaon and Mangaldoi and char (riverine) areas large scale vegetable production takes place and there is use of pesticides.

    To promote and popularise agriculture among the youths, the department will hold an agri-horticulture show in collaboration with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) from January 21 t0 23. At Least 10 countries will participate in the event which will be held in Bokakhat.

    Bora said, “Large number of farmers used to participate earlier however this time it will virtually. The biggest contribution of this annual event is it is promoting new entrepreneurs. Flood resistant seeds will be popularised. Rice production in Assam has increased by 14 percent in the last couple of years.”

    He added, “We will try to promote youths to take to animal husbandry. There is huge scope in this sector. Last year due to the outbreak of African Swine Fever we stopped the inflow of pigs from Haryana and Punjab. Farmers from these states told me that only in Nagaland annually they send pigs to the tune of Rs 500 Crore.”

    He added, “In last five years change has come to the agriculture sector”.
