Texas adds over 10,000 new coronavirus cases; Tarrant County reports 40 deaths

Dallas County did not report new coronavirus data Monday.

Texas reported 11,590 more coronavirus cases Monday, including 10,805 new cases and 785 older cases that were recently reported by labs.

The state also reported 46 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 32,084.

Of the new cases, 10,110 were confirmed and 695 were probable. Of the older cases, 618 were confirmed and 167 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the state’s total to 2,125,552, including 1,864,249 confirmed cases and 261,303 probable cases.

There are 13,858 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 3,919 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Sunday, 24.2% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — well above the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 16.3% as of Sunday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 9.6%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes also called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.

According to the state’s data, 1,138,582 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 169,081 are fully immunized.

Dallas County

Dallas County did not report new coronavirus data Monday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

The county’s next report will be Tuesday and will include data from Sunday. Wednesday’s report will include data from Monday and Tuesday.

As of Sunday, the county had reported 234,625 cases, including 207,640 confirmed cases and 26,985 probable cases. The death toll stood at 1,871.

According to the state’s data, 83,577 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 14,789 are fully immunized.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 3,021 coronavirus cases and 40 deaths Monday.

The victims included 18 Arlington residents, including two men in their 50s, three men and two women in their 60s, a woman and four men in their 70s, a man and woman in their 80s, and a man and three women who were each over 90.

Eleven Fort Worth residents were also among the latest victims, including a man and woman in their 50s, two men and a woman in their 60s, four men and one woman in their 70s and a man in his 80s.

Three North Richland Hills residents — a man in his 60s and a man and woman each over 90 — and two Mansfield residents, a woman in her 70s and a man over 90, also died.

The remaining victims were a Southlake man in his 50s, a Grand Prairie woman in her 60s, a Benbrook man in his 70s, a Saginaw woman in her 80s, a Bedford woman in her 80s and a White Settlement woman over 90.

Thirty-eight of the victims had underlying health problems; it was unknown whether the remaining two also did.

Of the new cases, 2,686 were confirmed and 335 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s total to 195,518, including 169,160 confirmed cases and 26,358 probable cases. The death toll stands at 1,892.

According to the county, 1,491 people were hospitalized with the virus as of Sunday.

According to the state’s data, 61,135 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 5,695 are fully immunized.

Collin County

The state added 603 coronavirus cases and two deaths to Collin County’s totals Monday.

No details about the latest victims were available.

Of the new cases, 555 were confirmed and 48 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s total to 63,842, including 55,352 confirmed cases and 8,490 probable cases. The death toll stands at 474.

According to the county, 536 people are hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state’s data, 29,963 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 4,024 are fully immunized.

Denton County

Denton County officials had not reported new coronavirus data by 6 p.m. Monday.

As of Saturday, the county had reported 46,272 cases, including 13,925 that were active and 32,098 that were recoveries. The death toll stood at 249.

According to the state’s data, 18,057 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 2,331 are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

  • Kaufman County: 11,450 cases (9,962 confirmed and 1,488 probable), 150 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 16,403 cases (14,457 confirmed and 1,946 probable), 199 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 14,435 cases (12,872 confirmed and 1,563 probable), 210 deaths.
