NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – North Texans are invited to participate in President-elect Joe Biden’s Inaugural Committee’s “National Moment of Unity and Remembrance” today to honor Americans who have died from COVID-19.

At 4:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, 400 candles will be lit at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington D.C. Each candle represents one thousand people who lost their lives in the pandemic.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the virus has killed more than 398,000 Americans.

Cities nationwide are asked to light up their buildings in an amber color. Residents are asked to light a candle in their window.  Churches have been asked to ring a bell.

The City of Lewisville is participating.

According to the city’s website, Lewisville City Hall, Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater, and the buildings along Main Street in Old Town Lewisville will be lit up today.

Several buildings and churches in Dallas are reportedly planning to participate.

Biden’s inaugural committee is asking Americans to use the hashtag #COVIDMemorial on social media posts about the event.
