Premier League to investigate Robert Snodgrass's move to West Brom after new boss Sam Allardyce revealed deal to sign winger prevented him from playing against West Ham - which would breach regulations

The Premier League are set to look into Robert Snodgrass's transfer from West Ham to West Bromwich Albion after claims that an 'agreement' was made between the two sides for the Scotsman not to feature on Tuesday night.

Both teams faced off inside the London stadium during midweek Premier League action, in a match in which Snodgrass was not selected by West Brom who went on to lose 2-1.

On January 8 Snodgrass was confirmed as a Baggies player and the first signing of Sam Allardyce's reign, though on Tuesday night the new manager revealed an 'agreement' was made stipulating that Snodgrass would not feature against his former employers.

Any such agreement would appear to conflict with Premier League regulations which state: 'No club shall enter into a contract which enables any other party to that contract to acquire the ability materially to influence its policies or the performance of its teams in league matches.'

Asked when he first knew of the arrangement, Allardyce told BT Sport: 'I'm not going to answer that. If the Premier League want to know that they can contact us privately and we'll tell them.

'It's up to the Premier League to let us know what and if we've done anything wrong and then I'll answer whatever questions they decide to ask me.

'It's not my big worry at the moment though, what the Premier League do or don't think.'

West Ham manager David Moyes, when asked post-match for his input on the matter, told BT: 'I don’t think it is any of my business. I am not sure it is any of yours, to be honest.

'The Premier League have to do what they have to do. Robert Snodgrass is a very good player, we will miss him a lot.

'We sent him with our best wishes, we did not take any fee for him because we have so much respect for him and what he has done here.'

It is reported that such an agreement between the two sides remained verbal, and was not written into the contract itself.
