KOLKATA: Protestants from across the state will walk from the Epiphany Church at Thakurpukur to Oxford Mission near Behala Chowrasta on Wednesday under the aegis of the Bengal Christian Council, which is an affiliate of the National Council of Churches in India, the biggest umbrella for Protestant churches of the country.
The rally christened, Unity Rally, has been called to promote the cause of peace, harmony and a pledge to help the cause of the underprivileged, especially the orphans.
The BCC is turning 100 this year.
Oxford Mission is run by the Kolkata Diocese of the Church of North India (CNI) and has been running an orphanage for the past 140 years. The rally will be led by Bishop Paritosh Canning, head of CNI here. After culminating at the Oxford Mission grounds, a pledge will be taken to take up new projects that will help those who are already part of the system and welcome new orphans across religious divides within the system.
“The pandemic has changed everything. It has distressed the poor further and they need help. The churches cannot do this work alone and we need help from everyone and hence this rally. We are requesting all to contribute to this cause so that we can reach help to as many orphan kids as possible. We will expand the scope of work of the Mission immediately and we hope that help comes pouring in,” Bishop Canning said.
