WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THEIR FACILITIES. >> DIFFERENT HOSPITALS, SIMILAR SITUATIONS. >> WE CONTINUE TO BE WELL ABOVE OUR LICENSED CAPACITY FOR ICU AS WELL AS FOR THE PROGRESSIVE CARE UNITS. >> EVER ARE I MAJOR HOSPITAL IN THE STATE REPORTING THEY ARE STILL FULL AND BEYOND. >> WE HAVE SEEN A LEVELING OFF AND A VERY SLIGHT DECLINE IN THE NUMBER OF COVID HOSPITALIZATIONS, BUT WE ARE STILWELL ABOVE CAPACITY AND WHAT THEY ARE SEEING IS A LOT OF VERY ILL PATIENTS WITH OTHER CONDITIONS WHICH TEND TO GET WORSE AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR THAT ARE COMING IN. >> EVEN THOUGH COVID NUMBERS HAVE COME DOWN CURRENTLY, WE CERTAINLY CAN'T AFFORD FOR THEM TO GO BACK UP. "At UNMH, we continue to be well above our surge capacity both for ICU as well as for the progressive care units," said Dr. Rohini McKee with the University of New Mexico Hospital.Tuesday, every major hospital in the state reported they're still full and beyond even with a decline in COVID-19 patients. "I have seen a leveling off in a very slight decline in the number of Covid hospitalizations but we are still well above capacity, and what we're seeing is a lot of very ill patients with other conditions that tend to get worse at this time of year that are coming in," Dr. Rohini said. "Even though COVID numbers have come down currently, we certainly can't afford for it to go back up. Our hospitals are still full even though it's not COVID patients, per se, we just cannot afford to have another surge or increase in cases at this time," said Dr. Vesta Sandoval with Lovelace Healthcare System. They say with the vaccine, there is light at the end of the tunnel, but they're urging New Mexicans to keep wearing masks and follow COVID-19 safety guidelines.To visit our COVID-19 Special Section click here >>
