MUMBAI: A Palghar court acquitted a 35-year-old schoolteacher of charges of abetting the suicide of a 14-year-old student in 2014. Additional sessions judge S S Gulhane observed that being a teacher, it is his job to scold students who tell lies and it does not amount to abetment to suicide.
The teacher had reprimanded the class X tribal student on learning that he had lied about his marks in mathematics to his family and called his father to school.
The teacher had pulled up other students too. But the boy went to his Talasari home and hanged himself. His father then filed a case of abetment against the teacher.
