KOLKATA: With the DCGI's (Drug Controller General of India) clearance of phase-III clinical trials for Sputnik V Covid candidate vaccine, Kolkata is set to test it on 100 volunteers.
Peerless Hospital had been selected as a trial site and its ethical committee had already given the green signal. The hospital was waiting for the final nod from DCGI. The study will be part of the pan-India trials on 1,500 volunteers.
Mobilization and registration of the 100 volunteers had begun a few weeks ago. The clinical trial team started screening the volunteers after the DCGI's nod late on Saturday.
School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata, is awaiting DCGI nod for phase-III trials of Covovax, another Covid-19 candidate vaccine.
