LUCKNOW: The state government is starting road safety month from Thursday to curb road accidents and casualties and to ensure that people follow traffic and safety rules.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the road safety month and launch projects worth Rs 55.7 crore related to road safety and other facilities.
Awareness campaign will be organised throughout the state during the month for which the transport and home have been jointly made nodal departments.

Reviewing the preparations for the road safety month, the CM directed officials to effectively prevent accidents and make people aware about traffic rules.
He told officials to focus on use of technology, road engineering and enforcement to ensure road safety, as well as strict compliance of rules and regulations by preparing a detailed action plan and ensuring its implementation.
Yogi said road constructions agencies, including PWD and NHAI to take necessary and adequate steps to prevent accidents by identifying black and blind spots and take required action. He said all damaged bridges and culverts across the state should be repaired and officials should then conduct on-site inspections for quality check and verification.

The CM said police must ensure that there are no over speeding, wrong side or drunken driving cases and arrangements should be made to ensure a person injured in a road accident is rushed to the nearest trauma centre or hospital.
“There should be enough human resources and equipment in trauma centres and the response time of the 108 ambulance should be reduced. Effective action should be taken against illegal dhabas and vehicles parked on the roadsides. Speed breakers should be constructed as per standards and steps should be taken to minimise road accidents on Agra-Lucknow and Yamuna expressways,” he said.
Yogi asked police, transport, medical, health and education department officials to prepare an action plan for road safety and ensure its implementation, besides ensuring the fitness of all drivers and vehicles.
The CM also emphasized on strict patrolling and action against vehicles not following speed limits on expressways and state roads.
