KOLKATA: The
CBI on Wednesday has issued fourth notice to
Vinay Mishra, a Trinamool Youth Congress leader, in connection to the
cattle smuggling case. The agency, which has claimed that
Mishra is yet to cooperate, might seek his arrest warrant from the court.
The agency on Wednesday issued summon to Mishra who is yet to appear before its office in connection to the ongoing probe into the cattle smuggling case.
Sources said that Mishra, against whom CBI issued a look out notice, is untraceable. CBI sources on Wednesday indicated that if Mishra fails to appear before it even after the fourth notice, it might move the court to seek Mishra’s custody.
Earlier last year the agency officials issued summon to him after they conducted searches at his residence. The
TMC neta skipped the summon and did no appear before the agency. During the seven-hour search at his Rashbehari Avenue residence, the agency officials got hold of some incriminating documents. Mishra was the first neta to be linked to Enamul Haque—the kingpin of the cross-border cattle smuggling racket. CBI officials have reasons to believe that Mishra used to act as the front man of Haque in the cattle smuggling racket. “His absence is going to complicate the matter further,” said a CBI official.
Meanwhile, the CBI is working on a list of nearly two dozen West Bengal Police officials, including a number of IPS officers who might have some information on the cattle smuggling and illegal coal trading.
